Armored Trooper Votoms: The Last Red Shoulder

Armored Trooper Votoms: The Last Red Shoulder is a 1985 direct-to-video side story set between the Kummen and Sunsa arcs of the TV series. It follows veteran pilot Chirico Cuvie as he reunites—uneasily—with former comrades from the infamous Red Shoulder Battalion to settle scores with the military powers that exploited them. What begins as a tight, clandestine operation spirals into a brutal urban assault showcasing customized Scopedogs marked with the unit’s crimson shoulder, battlefield pragmatism, and the cost of manufactured soldiers. Tonally, it’s darker and more concentrated than the series: a 50-odd-minute burst of grit, revenge, and lore-building that deepens the mythos around the Red Shoulders and foreshadows later revelations about Chirico’s past.
