Evangelion Unit-00

Evangelion Unit-00, also known as Eva-00, is the first functional Evangelion unit developed by NERV. Initially designed as a prototype, it is piloted by Rei Ayanami, the First Child. Unit-00’s original design featured orange armor plating and lacked shoulder pylons, setting it apart from the later production units. After being severely damaged during the battle with the Fifth Angel, Ramiel, Unit-00 was refitted with blue armor and shoulder pylons, enhancing its combat capabilities.

Throughout the series, Eva-00 played a crucial role in multiple key battles, including the fights against Angels like Matarael, Sahaquiel, and Arael. Despite its importance, Unit-00 suffered heavy damage and was eventually destroyed during the battle with Armisael, after being assimilated by the Angel. Rei initiated a self-destruct sequence to prevent further contamination, destroying both the Angel and Unit-00. The soul within Unit-00 is ambiguous, with speculation pointing to it belonging to Rei I, the original clone of Rei Ayanami. Unit-00’s legacy, however, is foundational in the Evangelion series, representing the first step in humanity’s fight against the Angels.
