Haro
Haro is a beloved mechanical mascot from the Gundam franchise, first introduced in the 1979 series Mobile Suit Gundam. Created by Amuro Ray, Haro is a spherical robot known for its cheerful personality and distinctive appearance, characterized by its green body and red eyes. Initially designed as a simple companion, Haro has become a recurring character in multiple Gundam timelines, often symbolizing the theme of companionship and technological advancement.
In the Universal Century timeline, Haro was originally created by Amuro Ray and became a staple aboard the White Base, the ship featured in the original series. Due to its popularity, Haro was mass-produced and appeared in later series such as Zeta Gundam, ZZ Gundam, and Char’s Counterattack. In Mobile Suit Victory Gundam, Haro’s capabilities were further enhanced, allowing it to project images and assist in combat-related tasks.
When the Gundam franchise moved to the Anno Domini timeline in Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Haro was integrated into the paramilitary organization Celestial Being. These AI-equipped robots played vital roles in assisting with the maintenance of Gundams and support crafts, as well as processing data. Haros in this timeline had distinct personalities and functions, such as the orange Haro partnered with Lockon Stratos.
Beyond the mainline series, Haro has appeared in various spin-offs, such as Gundam Build Fighters, Gundam Build Divers, and Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury. Haro’s continued presence across these narratives showcases its versatility, with different versions, such as a purple Haro named Ansh in Gundam Build Divers Re:Rise, maintaining its role as a companion or assistant.
Throughout the Gundam universe, Haro remains an enduring and iconic symbol of the series, representing the fusion of humanity and technology in a universe full of advanced mobile suits and complex characters.
