Metal Gear REX
Metal Gear REX is a formidable bipedal nuclear-equipped walking tank from the Metal Gear Solid series, designed by Hal Emmerich (Otacon) under the direction of ArmsTech and DARPA. Standing approximately 13 meters tall, with a length of 15 meters and a width of 5.76 meters, it weighs about 505,450 kg (505 metric tons). Despite its massive size, REX can achieve a maximum speed of 140.777 km/h (87.5 mph) and has a maximum range of 1,505 km (935 miles). The tank is powered by the ArmsTech AGM 4000 “Behemoth” engine and features laminate/steel composite armor, making it highly durable and resistant to damage.
The armament of Metal Gear REX is designed for both offense and defense, making it one of the most powerful machines in the Metal Gear universe. Its primary weapon is an 18.5-meter railgun (AGM-129 ACM), capable of launching nuclear warheads with stealth capabilities, positioning REX as a significant threat in the realm of nuclear warfare. The secondary armaments include two 12.7mm Gatling guns for anti-aircraft and anti-personnel use, three Phalanga-F anti-tank missiles, and the ArmsTech International V17 Vulcan Cannon for close-range defense. Additionally, REX features a high-energy laser cutter, dubbed the “Searing LaserStorm,” for devastating melee combat.
Equipped with advanced targeting and radar systems, REX also includes a radome for enhanced situational awareness. It has integrated night vision equipment for low-visibility operations and a Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical (NBC) protection system, ensuring it can function in harsh environments. Metal Gear REX’s design and weaponry reflect the series’ focus on military technology, power, and the ethical ramifications of nuclear proliferation, making it an iconic symbol in Metal Gear Solid.
