MS-06F Zaku II

The MS-06F Zaku II is a pivotal mobile suit developed by the Principality of Zeon during the One Year War in the Universal Century timeline of Mobile Suit Gundam. Introduced in UC 0079, the Zaku II was Zeon’s primary mass-produced mobile suit and represented a significant advancement over earlier designs like the MS-05B Zaku I. The MS-06F variant was specifically designed for ground combat, featuring enhanced mobility, armor, and firepower, making it adaptable to various combat situations. Standing at 17.5 meters tall and weighing approximately 58.1 metric tons (empty), the Zaku II was powered by a fusion reactor that generated 950 kW, providing it with considerable strength and endurance. It had a maximum speed of 65 km/h on the ground and a 180° turn time of 2.9 seconds.

The Zaku II’s armament includes a 105mm machine gun with a 100-round drum capacity, mounted vertically on the right side, and a heat hawk, a melee weapon with a superheated blade capable of cutting through enemy armor. For additional firepower, the Zaku II could be equipped with a more powerful 120mm machine gun, the Zaku Bazooka for anti-ship and anti-mobile suit combat, and a heat sword for upgraded melee attacks. It also had MIP-B6 Cracker grenades for anti-personnel purposes, a Sturm Faust shoulder-mounted anti-tank weapon, and a shield for extra protection.

The Zaku II also had specialized variants, including the MS-06L Sniper Type, which featured enhanced targeting systems and a longer-range rifle for precision engagements, and the MS-06S Commander Type, designed for leadership roles with improved performance and additional equipment. Although the Zaku II was eventually outclassed by more advanced mobile suits, its design and armament laid the groundwork for future innovations in mobile suit technology and cemented its place as one of the most iconic mobile suits in the Gundam franchise.
