Mobile Suit Gundam SEED VS Astray
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED VS ASTRAY is a Cosmic Era side story that runs parallel to the events of SEED DESTINY. Told in the kit-driven photo-novel style, it brings back Junk Guild salvager Lowe Guele and mercenary ace Gai Murakumo, then throws them against a new shadow group called Librarian Works. Operating behind the headlines, Librarian Works gathers battlefield data, builds replica mobile suits, and even deploys “carbon human” copies of notable figures to prove its engineering supremacy.
The story plays like a cat-and-mouse chase across Orb, ZAFT, and Earth Alliance spheres: Lowe’s improvisational genius and Gai’s battlefield instincts collide with Librarian Works’ testbeds and copycats. Duels are fast, personal, and heavy on custom gear—exactly the Astray flavor—while the broader plot pokes at questions of identity and authorship: if you clone the pilot and the machine, do you also duplicate the soul?
Mecha highlights include Librarian Works’ riffed versions of familiar machines (such as the Gale Strike) and striking one-offs that became fan favorites, with the line’s signature emphasis on modular packs, scavenged parts, and aggressive custom tuning. In the end, VS ASTRAY doesn’t rewrite Cosmic Era history so much as widen it, showing how tinkerers, mercenaries, and data pirates wage their own war in the margins of the main conflict.
