MS-09 Dom

The MS-09 Dom is a mass-produced ground combat mobile suit developed by the Principality of Zeon during the One Year War in the Universal Century timeline of Mobile Suit Gundam. Introduced in UC 0079, the Dom was designed to address the mobility issues faced by earlier Zeon mobile suits like the MS-06 Zaku II and MS-07B Gouf on Earth. The Dom incorporated advanced hovercraft technology, featuring thermonuclear jet engines mounted in its legs and under its waist armor, allowing it to hover at speeds up to 381 km/h. This capability significantly enhanced its ground mobility compared to its predecessors.

Standing at 18.6 meters tall and weighing 62.6 metric tons empty (81.8 metric tons fully equipped), the Dom was powered by a thermonuclear fusion reactor producing 1,269 kW. It was equipped with a scattering beam cannon mounted in its chest and a heat saber for close combat. Additionally, the Dom could be armed with various handheld weapons, including a 360mm giant bazooka, 120mm machine gun, 880mm rocket bazooka, and a 90mm machine gun. The mobile suit’s design featured skirt armor to protect its thrusters and sensors, earning it the nickname “Skirted” among Federation pilots.

The Dom was first deployed in June UC 0079 and played a significant role in the Earth-based campaigns of the One Year War. It was notably piloted by the Black Tri-Stars—Gaia, Ortega, and Mash—who used the Dom in their attacks against the Federation forces. Despite its advanced mobility and firepower, the Dom was eventually surpassed by newer mobile suit designs. However, it remains an iconic unit in the Gundam franchise, symbolizing Zeon’s innovation in mobile suit technology during the war.
