ZGMF-2027/A GYAN Strom

The ZGMF-2027/A GYAN Strom is a next-generation close-quarters combat mobile suit introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom. Developed by ZAFT for use by the international peacekeeping organization Compass, it is positioned as the spiritual successor to the ZGMF-2000 GOUF Ignited. The GYAN Strom was designed for cost-effectiveness and operational flexibility, sharing many components with the ZGMF-2025/F GELGOOG Menace, including compatibility with the B.O.L.E.L.O. modular backpack system, which comes in different configurations for atmospheric and space use.

Standing at approximately 20 meters tall and weighing 84.3 metric tons with its space configuration, the GYAN Strom is powered by an ultracompact energy battery and features a torso-mounted cockpit for a single pilot. The suit is equipped with an array of powerful weapons tailored for both close and mid-range combat. Its signature armaments include a pair of MMI-T818 “Tridenti” three-barrel rotary beam machine guns mounted in the chest and MA-M767E “Slayer Whip” heat rods stored on each forearm, which can extend and lash at enemy units with high heat output.

For melee combat, the GYAN Strom wields the MA-GFD230 “Ferro Secare” beam saber, and carries the MMI-KX8E4 self-propelled shield, a high-speed rotating device equipped with beam saber emitters that can also function as an offensive weapon. Ranged firepower is provided by the MMI-M635D beam rifle, as well as optional equipment like the MA-MR Falx G7 beam axe. It also features M71 “Peregrinus” 6-tube short-range guided missile launchers, mounted on its B.O.L.E.L.O. backpack, for additional explosive support.

The GYAN Strom boasts excellent adaptability thanks to features such as the Wizard System, which allows for rapid reconfiguration for different mission types, and a Ballute re-entry system for atmospheric descent from orbit. These design choices reflect its role as a multipurpose front-line unit capable of adjusting to varying combat environments.

Only two units of the GYAN Strom are confirmed to exist in the series. One is piloted by Agnes Giebenrath, who later defects to the antagonistic Foundation faction, and the other by Hilda Harken, who remains loyal to Compass. With its blend of high performance, modular adaptability, and balanced weaponry, the GYAN Strom represents a refined evolution of ZAFT’s mobile suit doctrine in the Gundam SEED Freedom era.
