Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt

Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt is a manga series written and illustrated by Yasuo Ohtagaki, set in the Universal Century timeline during and after the events of Mobile Suit Gundam. The story takes place during the One Year War in UC 0079 and focuses on the fierce battle between the Earth Federation’s Moore Brotherhood and the Principality of Zeon’s Living Dead Division in the Thunderbolt Sector, a dangerous area filled with space debris and frequent electrical discharges. The narrative centers on two pilots: Io Fleming of the Federation and Daryl Lorenz of Zeon, whose rivalry drives the plot, highlighting their contrasting personalities and the brutal nature of war.

The manga was adapted into an anime, with the first season released in 2015 and the second season in 2017. These episodes were later compiled into two films: Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt: December Sky and Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt: Bandit Flower. The manga, known for its gritty depiction of war, continues to expand the Gundam universe and has been collected into twenty-five volumes as of February 2025. Its deep character exploration and intense action have made it a notable entry in the Gundam franchise.
