Junichi Akutsu

Junichi Akutsu (阿久津 潤一), also known by the alias BEE-CRAFT, is a veteran Japanese mechanical designer and illustrator known for his extensive work in the mecha and toy industries. Active since the mid-1980s, Akutsu is best known for his contributions to the Gundam and Transformers franchises, where he specializes in turning concept art into functional, detailed mechanical designs suitable for models and toys.

In the Gundam universe, Akutsu has worked closely with Bandai, refining designs for model kits and action figures. He is particularly known for his role in the METAL BUILD line, including the Gold Frame Amatsu Mina. His design work emphasizes complex joint mechanics and mechanical realism.

Akutsu has also worked with Takara on the Transformers franchise, contributing to designs in the Beast Machines and Masterpiece lines, including MP-10 Optimus Prime and MP-24 Star Saber. His engineering-focused approach ensures that his designs are not only visually compelling but also structurally sound for production.

He published an art book titled Art Road – Junichi Akutsu Design Works, which showcases his portfolio across anime, toys, and model kits. Junichi Akutsu is widely respected for his precision and ability to bring conceptual designs to life in both artistic and practical forms.
