Mika Akitaka

Mika Akitaka (明貴 美加) is a Japanese mechanical designer and illustrator known for his influential work in the Gundam franchise. Born on August 28, 1957, he is recognized for his refined and detailed mobile suit designs, as well as for creating the popular “MS Girls” concept.

Akitaka has contributed mechanical designs to several Gundam series, including Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory, and Gundam SEED. Some of his most well-known designs include the Zaku III, Gundam GP01, GP02A, and the Gerbera Tetra. His work often emphasizes sleek proportions and technical detail, blending realism with anime aesthetics.

He is also the creator of the “MS Girls” (Mobile Suit Girls), a series of illustrations that reimagine Gundam mobile suits as armored anime girls. This concept became popular among fans and has inspired figures, model kits, and influenced later product lines like Frame Arms Girl and Megami Device.

Mika Akitaka remains a respected figure in both mechanical design and anime character illustration, known for bridging the gap between traditional mecha and stylized, character-driven reinterpretations.
