Mobile Suit Gundam IRON-BLOODED ORPHANS
Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans is a 2015 Japanese anime series produced by Sunrise, set in the Post Disaster (P.D.) era, which takes place over 300 years after the “Calamity War.” The story is primarily set on the terraformed Mars, where the Martian colonies are under the control of Earth-based corporations. It follows a group of orphaned child soldiers who form a mercenary group called Tekkadan in their fight for freedom and the independence of Mars.
The narrative begins with Mikazuki Augus, a skilled pilot, and Orga Itsuka, the leader of the Third Division of Chryse Guard Security (CGS), who rebel against their adult superiors after a betrayal. They take control of CGS and rebrand it as Tekkadan. Their first mission is to escort Kudelia Aina Bernstein, a Martian noblewoman advocating for Mars’ independence, to Earth. Along the way, Tekkadan faces various challenges, including attacks from the Earth military organization Gjallarhorn and internal political struggles.
As the series progresses, Tekkadan becomes more powerful and influential, attracting the attention of more formidable enemies. The story explores heavy themes such as war, child soldiers, poverty, corruption, and neo-colonialism. It delves into the moral dilemmas and struggles faced by the characters, highlighting the harsh realities of their world. The series, which consists of two seasons and a total of 50 episodes, has been praised for its compelling character development, thought-provoking themes, and action-packed narrative. It also expanded into manga adaptations and video games, adding depth to the Gundam universe.
