Asuka Shikinami Langley

Asuka Shikinami Langley (式波・アスカ・ラングレー) is a central character and Evangelion pilot in the Rebuild of Evangelion film series. Designated as the Second Child and holding the rank of Captain, she is a highly skilled and competitive 14-year-old of German, American, and Japanese descent who pilots Evangelion Unit-02. While sharing the fiery, hot-headed, and “tsundere” personality of her original series counterpart, Asuka Soryu, this version is characterized as a loner who uses a portable game console to isolate herself and, unlike Soryu, does not harbor a hatred for dolls.

Her backstory differs significantly as she is part of the Shikinami clone series, having competed against other clones from a young age to become an Eva pilot. In the later films, she serves under the organization Wille with a heavy grudge against Shinji Ikari following the Near Third Impact, appearing with a signature eyepatch and remaining physically 14 years old due to the “Curse of Eva” despite being chronologically 28. Her aggressive and overconfident front masks deep-seated psychological vulnerabilities and a desire for recognition stemming from her traumatic upbringing and the pressure of her role.
