Pikachu

Pikachu (ピカチュウ) is a small, bipedal rodent-like Electric-type Pokémon and the official mascot of the Pokémon franchise. Standing 1’04” tall and characterized by its yellow fur, long ears with black tips, and red cheek sacs that store electricity, it is known for its lightning bolt-shaped tail—which is heart-shaped in females. Originally designed by Atsuko Nishida and finalized by Ken Sugimori, Pikachu evolves from Pichu when there is a high level of friendship and can evolve into Raichu using a Thunder Stone.

Pikachu gained worldwide fame as the starter Pokémon for Ash Ketchum in the anime series and has appeared in every Super Smash Bros. game as a fast, light combatant. In battle, it utilizes abilities like Static, which can paralyze foes upon contact, and signature moves such as Thunderbolt and Volt Tackle. While it is highly effective against Water and Flying types, it is notably vulnerable to Ground-type attacks, which it cannot affect with its electrical abilities. Over the years, its design has evolved from a rounder “Fat Pikachu” to a slimmer version, though its original look was celebrated through its Gigantamax form in later games.
