NOG-M2D1/E Black Knight Squad Cal-re.A

The NOG-M2D1/E Black Knight Squad Cal-re.A is a Foundation mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom and one of the machines used by the Black Knight Squad. It is associated with Orphee Lam Tao and appears as a major enemy machine during the conflict between Foundation and COMPASS.

The Cal-re.A is part of the same Foundation design family as the Black Knight Squad Shi-ve.A and Rud-ro.A units. Its appearance uses dark armour, gold detailing and a regal, knight-like silhouette, matching Foundation’s aristocratic political image and the Black Knight naming theme. In battle it is connected with the final-stage confrontation around Requiem and the upgraded COMPASS mobile suits.

The machine belongs to the new SEED Freedom generation of antagonist units rather than the earlier ZAFT or Earth Alliance development lines. Its role is to show Foundation’s own advanced mobile suit technology, visually separate from ZAFT’s Zaku/GOUF/Dom descendants, Orb’s Astray/Murasame lineage and COMPASS’s modified Gundam-type machines.
