RGM-79 Light-Type Guncannon is a Federation support mobile suit concept derived from the GM and Guncannon design families. It combines the mass-production simplicity of the RGM-79 GM line with the artillery-support identity associated with the RX-77 Guncannon.

The Light-Type Guncannon is best understood as a lighter, more production-friendly support unit, using cannon-style firepower while retaining a GM-like structure. Its appeal is in the practical battlefield idea of giving ordinary Federation units heavier mid-range support capability without relying on a full prototype Guncannon.
