RX-78-5 Gundam Unit 5 “G05”

The RX-78-5 Gundam Unit 5, also known as G05, is the sister machine to Gundam Unit 4 in Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: Space, To the End of a Flash. It is another late-One Year War RX-78 development unit operated from the Federation ship Thoroughbred.

G05 is piloted by Ford Romfellow and is most closely associated with the Giant Gatling, a large projectile weapon that gives it a sustained-fire role. This contrasts with G04’s Mega Beam Launcher, making the two units visually and tactically complementary. G05 normally uses a red-accented colour scheme, helping distinguish it from the blue-accented Unit 4.

The machine keeps the RX-78 Gundam frame identity while adapting the equipment for space combat and continuous fire support. It can also use standard Gundam weapons such as beam sabres, shield, beam rifle and head vulcans depending on depiction. Together with G04, it shows how the Federation continued to test specialised RX-78 variants after the original Amuro Ray unit.
