RX-79BD-1 Blue Destiny Unit 1

The RX-79BD-1 Blue Destiny Unit 1 is an Earth Federation mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: The Blue Destiny. It is based on the RX-79[G] Ground Gundam development line but fitted with a GM-type head and equipped with the experimental EXAM System.

The EXAM System was developed by Chlust Moses using research connected to the Newtype Marion Welch. It temporarily boosts combat performance and reaction speed, but creates unstable behaviour and places heavy strain on the pilot. Unit 1 is piloted by Yuu Kajima, who first encounters the machine as a hostile blue mobile suit before becoming involved in the Federation’s EXAM project.

The suit’s GM-like head, blue armour and Ground Gundam-derived body make it visually distinct from the later Blue Destiny Units 2 and 3. Its standard armament includes Federation ground-combat weapons such as machine guns, beam sabres and shields depending on game or model depiction.
