RX-79BD-3 Blue Destiny Unit 3

The RX-79BD-3 Blue Destiny Unit 3 is the third EXAM System mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: The Blue Destiny. It is based on the RX-79[G] Gundam Ground Type development line and, unlike Unit 1, uses a Gundam-type head rather than a GM-type head.

Unit 3 is piloted by Yuu Kajima after the theft of Blue Destiny Unit 2 by Nimbus Schterzen. The machine carries the same EXAM System derived from Chlust Moses’s research into Newtype response and Marion Welch’s data, giving it extreme combat performance but also making it dangerous and unstable. It forms the main rival pair with Nimbus’s Unit 2 during the later part of the Blue Destiny story.

Armament is usually shown with Ground Gundam-derived equipment such as beam rifle, beam sabres, shield, head vulcans and optional projectile weapons depending on game or model depiction. Its blue armour links it visually with the earlier Blue Destiny units, while the Gundam head makes it the most recognisably “Gundam” form of the three EXAM test machines.
