XXXG-01S Shenlong Gundam

The XXXG-01S Shenlong Gundam, also known as the Altron Gundam in its later form, is a mobile suit featured in Mobile Suit Gundam Wing and its sequel OVA Endless Waltz. It was designed for close-quarters combat and piloted by Chang Wufei, a character known for his martial arts expertise and strong sense of justice. As one of the five Gundams created during Operation Meteor, the Shenlong Gundam was part of a mission to liberate the space colonies from the United Earth Sphere Alliance (UESA) and OZ.

The design of the Shenlong Gundam draws heavy inspiration from Chinese martial arts and mythology. Its primary weapon is the Beam Glaive, a polearm with a beam blade capable of slicing through enemy mobile suits with precision. The mobile suit is also equipped with the Dragon Fang, a dragon-head-shaped claw on the right forearm that can extend and retract. This claw serves as both a grappling tool and a powerful striking weapon, with built-in flamethrowers to enhance its offensive capabilities. Additionally, the Shenlong features head-mounted vulcan guns for light suppression fire and a shield mounted on the left arm, which can also be thrown as a weapon. The Gundam’s construction utilizes Gundanium alloy, providing it with exceptional durability.

In the series, Wufei initially names the Shenlong Gundam “Nataku” in honor of his late wife, Meilan Long, who had adopted the name Nataku. After her tragic death, Wufei continues to fight with the Shenlong Gundam, upholding her ideals of justice and strength. Wufei’s journey throughout Gundam Wing is closely tied to his evolution as a character and his dedication to his beliefs.

In Endless Waltz, the Shenlong Gundam is upgraded to the XXXG-01S2 Altron Gundam, which features enhanced capabilities for space combat and new weaponry, including a pair of beam tridents. This upgrade marks Wufei’s growth as a warrior and his adaptation to the changing nature of the conflict.
