Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: Space, To the End of a Flash (機動戦士ガンダム外伝 宇宙、閃光の果てに…) is a side story set during the One Year War of the Universal Century. Originally released in 2003 as a “Side Story Mode” within the PlayStation 2 game Mobile Suit Gundam: Encounters in Space, it has since been adapted into manga and light novel formats. The narrative follows the 16th Autonomous Corps aboard the Thoroughbred, a Pegasus-class carrier tasked with a covert mission to intercept Zeon supply lines between Granada and Solomon to support Operation Star One. The story highlights the pilots of the RX-78-4 Gundam Unit 4 and RX-78-5 Gundam Unit 5, Ford Romfellow and Luce Kassel, as they face the harsh realities of war. Notable for its branching paths, the game allows players to trigger an “if” route where certain tragic events are averted, a version that was also adapted into the manga.
