Synduality: Noir

Synduality: Noir (シンデュアリティ・ノワール) is a Japanese anime series set in a post-apocalyptic future where humanity coexists with advanced AI beings known as Magus. The narrative unfolds in the year 2222, two decades after the catastrophic event known as the “Tears of the New Moon,” a mysterious poisonous rain that devastated the planet and led to the emergence of hostile creatures called Enders. In the aftermath, humanity retreated into underground cities called “Nests,” while some chose to live on the surface, navigating the dangers of the new world.

The story centers on Kanata, a young man aspiring to become a Drifter—a profession involving the piloting of Cradle Coffins, mecha-like combat units, to combat Enders and collect valuable AO Crystals. His life changes when he discovers Noir, a Magus with no memory of her past. Despite her initial clumsiness, Noir proves to be an exceptional pilot, and together with Kanata, they embark on a journey to uncover the mysteries of their world and their connection to the enigmatic “Histoire.”

The anime explores themes of identity, the relationship between humans and AI, and the quest for purpose in a fractured world. It delves into the complexities of memory and self-awareness, particularly through the character of Noir, whose lost memories and evolving consciousness raise questions about the nature of existence and the potential for AI to possess human-like qualities.
