Zoids

Zoids (ゾイド) is a long-running mecha franchise created by Tomy, now Takara Tomy, built around animal- and dinosaur-inspired mechanical lifeforms. Unlike humanoid robot series, Zoids are usually designed as mechanical beasts such as lions, wolves, tigers, raptors, dinosaurs and insects.

The franchise began as motorised model kits and expanded into anime, manga, games and many toy lines. Popular Zoids include the Liger Zero, Blade Liger, Shield Liger, Geno Saurer and Death Saurer. The setting varies by continuity, but Zoids commonly combines military conflict, pilots and living-machine themes, giving it a distinctive identity among Japanese mecha franchises.
