Junya Ishigaki

Junya Ishigaki (石垣純哉), born on November 22, 1967, in Shizuoka City, Japan, is a prominent mechanical designer known for his extensive contributions to the anime and video game industries. He debuted in 1990 with guest mechanical designs for Brave Exkaiser and initially focused on Sunrise productions before expanding to various other studios. In 1998, he co-founded Studio Trapezoid alongside animators like Takuya Saito and Susumu Yamaguchi.

Throughout his career, Ishigaki has become well-regarded for his work on the Gundam franchise, designing iconic enemy mobile suits for series such as Mobile Suit Victory Gundam, After War Gundam X, and Mobile Suit Gundam AGE. His diverse portfolio includes mechanical and conceptual designs for major titles like Macross Zero, Macross Frontier, Xenogears, and the Xenosaga series. Beyond mecha, he has contributed creature and monster designs to projects like Fullmetal Alchemist and Deltora Quest. His long career and significant industry impact were celebrated in the 2010 publication Ishigaki Junya Design Works: ROBO no Ishi, which compiled two decades of his professional work.
