Knight of Gold A-T Type D2 Mirage
The Knight of Gold A-T Type D2 Mirage, often referred to simply as the Knight of Gold, is one of the most iconic and revered Mortar Headds in The Five Star Stories. This golden machine is the personal unit of Emperor Ladios Sopp—also known as Amaterasu No Mikado—and is sometimes piloted alongside the Fatimas Lachesis or Atropos. The D2 variant represents the second incarnation of the Knight of Gold, rebuilt by Amaterasu after the original was lost. It was gifted to Atropos, one of the three Divine Fatimas, further elevating its mythic status within the narrative.
With its radiant golden armor and elaborate crown-like head design, the Knight of Gold is as much a symbol of divinity and imperial authority as it is a battlefield weapon. It serves as a testbed for cutting-edge ABSOMEC technology, integrating highly experimental systems that make it incredibly powerful but also notoriously unstable. This complexity limits its operation to only the most elite Headdliners and Fatimas, as lesser pilots are unable to cope with its advanced systems and volatile personality.
The D2 variant is particularly known for its integration of permanent BT Artillery, including a shortened Buster Rock launcher mounted on the rear skirt. It also carries a pair of chrome-finished katana-style speid swords and is equipped with a full suite of Mortar Headd weaponry such as lasers, machine guns, grenades, and S-mines. Despite its heavy loadout, the Knight of Gold is famed for its incredible speed and reflexes, often attacking with such velocity that it can land a fatal blow before a target even reacts. It is said to strike with the force of a sonic boom, and its movement is often described as faster than a ten-meter freefall.
In the world of The Five Star Stories, the Knight of Gold A-T D2 Mirage is more than a machine—it is a legend, a moving relic, and a canvas for the ambitions of gods and emperors. Its design fuses elegance and terror, beauty and destruction, embodying the mythological themes that run throughout the narrative. Whether seen in ceremony or combat, the Knight of Gold stands as the pinnacle of Mortar Headd engineering and the embodiment of the Mirage Empire’s pride.
