RCX-76 Guncannon First Type (Rollout Unit 1)

The RCX-76 Guncannon First Type (Rollout Unit 1) is an early Earth Federation mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin. It appears as part of the Federation’s pre-V Project mobile suit development, before the later RX-77-2 Guncannon and RX-78-02 Gundam.

The First Type design shows the Federation still experimenting with the mobile suit concept. It has a bulkier, more primitive shape than later RX-series machines, with heavy armour and shoulder cannon equipment that resemble a walking artillery platform. This reflects the Federation’s transition from tanks, aircraft and fixed artillery toward true humanoid mobile weapons.

Rollout Unit 1 belongs to the early testing phase of the Guncannon line. Its design helps place the RX-77 Guncannon into a longer development path: first as a heavy prototype support machine, then as a more refined mid-range fire-support mobile suit working alongside the Gundam and Guntank in the Federation’s RX Project.
