RGZ-91 Re-GZ

The RGZ-91 Re-GZ is a transformable mobile suit developed by Anaheim Electronics as a simplified derivative of the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam, intended for potential mass production by the Earth Federation. The “Re” in its designation stands for “Refined,” highlighting its streamlined design aimed at reducing the complexity and cost associated with the original Zeta Gundam. Instead of the Zeta’s intricate internal transformation mechanism, the Re-GZ employs a detachable Back Weapon System (BWS) that enables it to assume a Waverider-like flight mode, enhancing its mobility without the need for complex internal transformations.

In its mobile suit configuration, the Re-GZ stands 20.5 meters tall and weighs approximately 24.7 metric tons empty, with a maximum gross weight of 55.2 metric tons when fully equipped. It is powered by a Minovsky-type ultracompact fusion reactor generating 2,550 kW, providing ample energy for its operations. The mobile suit is equipped with a variety of armaments, including a beam rifle, beam sabers, vulcan guns, grenade launchers, and a shield. The BWS, when docked, adds additional firepower in the form of beam cannons and missile launchers, making the Re-GZ versatile in combat situations.

The Re-GZ was first deployed during the Second Neo Zeon War in UC 0093, piloted by Newtype ace Amuro Ray. Despite its advanced capabilities, the Re-GZ was ultimately deemed too costly for mass production, leading to the cancellation of its development. However, its design influenced subsequent mobile suits, including the RGZ-95 ReZEL, which incorporated elements from the Re-GZ’s design philosophy.

In summary, the RGZ-91 Re-GZ represents a significant attempt by the Earth Federation to create a more cost-effective alternative to the Zeta Gundam, combining advanced technology with a simplified design to meet the demands of modern warfare.
