ASW-G-XX Gundam Vidar

The ASW-G-XX Gundam Vidar is a unique and highly customized mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, developed and piloted by the masked figure Vidar, who is later revealed to be Gaelio Bauduin. This mobile suit was secretly constructed by Gjallarhorn’s Arianrhod Fleet using the frame of the damaged Gundam Kimaris. To conceal its origins and Gaelio’s identity, the suit was fitted with a third Ahab reactor—a rare and dangerous modification that altered its Ahab Wave signature, making it appear as a completely different machine.

Gundam Vidar stands approximately 18.5 meters tall and is built upon the ancient Gundam Frame architecture from the Calamity War era. It is equipped with nanolaminate armor, granting strong resistance against beam weaponry. One of its most distinctive features is the Alaya-Vijnana System Type E, which allows Gaelio to operate the mobile suit with high responsiveness through a brain-machine interface that utilizes the preserved brain of Ein Dalton. This system mimics the abilities of a standard Alaya-Vijnana user without requiring direct neural implants in the pilot’s body.

Vidar is outfitted with a range of specialized weaponry suited to close-quarters and mid-range combat. Its signature weapon is the Burst Saber, which has an explosive tip and can be replaced during battle using spare sabers mounted on the waist. For close combat, it uses Hunter’s Edge blades—deployable stabbing weapons located in its toes and heels—allowing it to attack with agile and unexpected movements. In addition, it carries a 110mm rifle and two small-caliber handguns stored in the front skirt armor for rapid ranged attacks.

In the narrative, Gundam Vidar is first deployed during the conflict surrounding the Mobile Armor Hashmal and continues to play a key role in the events leading to the downfall of McGillis Fareed. Eventually, Vidar reveals its true identity and is reconstructed into the Gundam Kimaris Vidar, shedding its false reactor and outer armor to rejoin the Kimaris line. The name “Vidar” itself is inspired by the Norse god of vengeance, reflecting Gaelio’s deeply personal mission to avenge the betrayal of his former friend McGillis.

With its concealed identity, refined combat systems, and symbolic role in the story, the Gundam Vidar stands as one of the most complex and thematically rich mobile suits in Iron-Blooded Orphans, representing both hidden truth and focused retribution.
