Ikaruga

Ikaruga is the player-controlled fighter ship from Treasure’s vertical shooting game Ikaruga. Piloted by Shinra, it is the central craft used throughout the game’s highly distinctive polarity-based combat system.

The Ikaruga is best known for its black-and-white polarity mechanic: by switching between light and dark attributes, the ship can absorb bullets of the same polarity while becoming vulnerable to the opposite one. This gives the game its famous puzzle-like bullet-hell rhythm, where survival depends as much on positioning and timing as on shooting skill. With its sleek silhouette and close association with one of the most celebrated arcade shooters, the Ikaruga is an iconic machine in video game mecha design.
