MS-06 Zaku II

The MS-06 Zaku II is the Principality of Zeon’s main mass-production mobile suit during the One Year War in Mobile Suit Gundam. The most common version is the MS-06F Zaku II Type F, used both in space and on Earth, with more than 3,000 units described as having been manufactured and deployed during the war.

The Zaku II established the basic Zeon mobile suit style: mono-eye sensor, rounded armour, shoulder shield, spiked shoulder armour and a utilitarian military frame. Standard weapons include the 120mm Zaku machine gun, 280mm Zaku bazooka, heat hawk, optional three-tube leg missile launchers and cracker grenades. The design was created by Kunio Okawara and became the template for many later mono-eye enemy suits.

The MS-06 platform produced many variants, including commander types, ground-use types, high-mobility types, the F2 late-war improvement and specialised test machines. Later Universal Century machines such as the Hizack, Zaku III, Geara Doga, Geara Zulu and RF Zaku all draw on the Zaku II lineage in different ways.
