RMS-192M Zaku Mariner

The RMS-192M Zaku Mariner is an amphibious mobile suit developed by the Earth Federation Forces during the late Universal Century, specifically in UC 0088. It was created as a successor to the Zeon MS-06M Zaku Marine Type, with significant improvements to enhance its capabilities in underwater combat. The Zaku Mariner first appeared in Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ and later featured in Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn, marking its continued relevance in the Federation’s mobile suit lineup.

Standing 19.4 meters tall and weighing approximately 68.3 metric tons at maximum gross weight, the Zaku Mariner is powered by a Minovsky-type ultracompact fusion reactor producing 1,440 kW. The mobile suit features specialized propulsion systems for both underwater and terrestrial movement. Hydrojet thrusters allow the Zaku Mariner to move efficiently underwater, while rocket thrusters provide mobility on land. The suit’s armor is made of titanium alloy combined with Gundarium alloy, providing an optimal balance between protection and weight. Additionally, its mono-eye sensor is mounted on a swivel, allowing the pilot to maintain forward visibility even while submerged.

The Zaku Mariner’s weaponry is designed for versatility in underwater and close-quarters combat. It is equipped with multiple SUBROC (SUBmarine ROCket) launchers, including 3-tube and 4-tube variants mounted on its shoulders and backpack. These launchers allow the Zaku Mariner to attack both underwater and in the air, making it a formidable opponent in various combat situations. For close combat, it features a magnet harken, a wire-guided magnetic grappling weapon mounted on the left forearm, which can be used for both attacking and securing objects or enemies. The suit can also carry a 4-tube spray missile gun for additional ranged firepower, which is particularly effective on land.

The Zaku Mariner’s design reflects the Federation’s resourcefulness, capturing and upgrading the technology initially developed by Zeon forces. Though originally a Zeon creation, the mobile suit was later captured and modified by the Earth Federation Forces, with the intention of enhancing their capabilities in amphibious warfare. The suit was later recaptured by Neo Zeon forces and remains a symbol of the ongoing struggle between Zeon remnants and the Federation.
