RX-78-4 Gundam Unit 4 “G04”

The RX-78-4 Gundam Unit 4, also known as G04, is one of the Earth Federation’s later RX-78 development units from Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: Space, To the End of a Flash. It operates from the Federation assault carrier Thoroughbred during the final stage of the One Year War.

G04 is piloted by Luce Kassel and is distinguished by its blue-accented colour scheme and Mega Beam Launcher equipment. The Mega Beam Launcher gives the unit extreme long-range firepower, but it places heavy stress on the mobile suit’s generator and cooling systems. In story material, the use of this weapon is closely tied to the dangers of pushing prototype Gundam hardware beyond safe operational limits.

The unit retains RX-78-family features such as beam sabres, shield and head vulcans, while being customised for heavy beam-weapon operation in space. It is usually paired conceptually with RX-78-5 Gundam Unit 5, whose red-accented loadout focuses more on sustained fire through its Giant Gatling.
