RX-78AL Atlas Gundam

The RX-78AL Atlas Gundam is a prototype mobile suit featured in the Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt series, developed by the Earth Federation Forces to engage in both terrestrial and amphibious combat. Standing 18 meters tall and equipped with a Minovsky ultracompact fusion reactor, the Atlas Gundam incorporates advanced technologies that allow it to excel in a variety of combat environments. Its design features spherical joints and a spinal frame, offering exceptional flexibility and mobility. The suit is also equipped with a magnet coating system, which reduces joint friction and enhances its agility. A distinctive feature of the Atlas Gundam is its Sub Legs, which can transform the suit into two different modes: Flight Mode, utilizing thrusters for aerial combat, and Submarine Mode, which allows the Gundam to operate underwater at speeds up to 40 knots.

In terms of armament, the Atlas Gundam is highly versatile, equipped with a beam rifle, beam sabers, and a shield for close-quarters and ranged combat. It also features an assault rifle with an integrated grenade launcher, a railgun capable of destroying heavily armored targets, and a blade shield with dischargers designed to penetrate enemy armor. The suit’s cockpit is housed within a spherical module, providing a 360-degree panoramic view and offering the pilot increased situational awareness and safety. Deployed aboard the Pegasus-class assault carrier Spartan, the Atlas Gundam was used in critical missions, including intercepting Zeon attacks and engaging in combat in the Antarctic region. Despite its advanced features, the Atlas Gundam was damaged during operations, leading to repairs and further modifications. Its innovative design made it a unique and formidable unit in the Gundam Thunderbolt narrative, showcasing the Earth Federation’s efforts to push the boundaries of mobile suit technology.
