Megami Device

Megami Device (メガミデバイス) is a line of highly customizable plastic model kits produced by Kotobukiya, first launched in 2016. The kits feature highly articulated, bishoujo-style female characters, known as “machinika” (マキニカ), that combine mecha aesthetics with detailed, interchangeable armor and weapon parts. Each model stands around 14 cm tall and is designed with a 3mm connection system, allowing compatibility with other Kotobukiya lines like Frame Arms and M.S.G. The line is known for its deep level of customization, including pre-painted faceplates, enabling builders to create unique figures with minimal painting required. While the kits have been designed by various renowned illustrators, such as Masaki Apsy (足立 正樹) and Nidy-2D- (ニディ-2D-), they also include themes from popular video games and anime.

In addition to its success in the model kit world, Megami Device has expanded into other forms of media, including an anime adaptation. The anime, titled “Megami Device: ARIA” (メガミデバイス: アリア) (released in 2022), further expands on the world of these mecha-powered girls, offering fans a deeper dive into their personalities and backstories. The anime focuses on the characters’ interactions, the advanced technology behind their creation, and the battles they face, all while highlighting the series’ signature aesthetic of blending beauty with mechanical prowess. The Megami Device brand continues to be popular among collectors, hobbyists, and anime fans, with new releases, collaborations, and expansions continuing to captivate a growing audience.
