Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn is a significant entry in the Gundam franchise, set in the Universal Century (UC) timeline, specifically in UC 0096, three years after the events of Char’s Counterattack. The story follows Banagher Links, a student living in the space colony Industrial 7, whose life is drastically changed when he encounters Audrey Burne, who is revealed to be Mineva Lao Zabi, the last surviving member of the infamous Zabi family. As the story progresses, they become embroiled in a complex struggle over a mysterious artifact known as “Laplace’s Box,” which holds the potential to reshape the political landscape of the Earth Sphere. Banagher is given the responsibility of piloting the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam, a powerful mobile suit linked to the secrets of the box. The series explores themes such as political intrigue, identity, and the cyclical nature of history, as various factions, including the Earth Federation, remnants of Neo Zeon known as the Sleeves, and the powerful Vist Foundation, fight for control of the box. It is set against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict left in the wake of previous Gundam events, adding depth to the narrative for long-time fans while remaining accessible to newcomers. Originally serialized as a light novel by Harutoshi Fukui, Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn was adapted into a seven-episode OVA series between 2010 and 2014, later receiving a recompilation into the TV series Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn RE:0096 in 2016, which included restructured content and reanimated scenes. The series has been widely praised for its stunning animation, intricate storytelling, and its thoughtful exploration of the broader Gundam universe.
