Rebuild of Evangelion

Rebuild of Evangelion (ヱヴァンゲリヲン新劇場版) is the four-film theatrical reimagining of Neon Genesis Evangelion, produced by Studio Khara and led by Hideaki Anno. The films began with Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone in 2007 and concluded with Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time in 2021.

The series starts as a retelling of the original Evangelion story, with Shinji Ikari, Rei Ayanami, Asuka and NERV fighting the Angels using Evangelion units. As the films progress, Rebuild diverges into a new continuity with different events, new characters such as Mari Illustrious Makinami, and a final conclusion that reframes Evangelion’s long-running themes of trauma, selfhood, connection and moving forward.
