Kanetake Ebikawa

Kanetake Ebikawa(海老川 兼武, 1973) is a Japanese mechanical designer celebrated for clean silhouettes, readable mechanics, and “pose-first” engineering. After early industry work on titles like Blue Submarine No. 6, Vandread, Full Metal Panic!, and Yukikaze, he rose to prominence on Mobile Suit Gundam 00, creating signature machines such as Exia, 00 / 00 Raiser, 00 Qan[T], GN-X, and Reborns. His designs balance crisp geometry with functional detail, making them intuitive to pose and striking on camera.

In the 2010s he helped define the mass-production look of Iron-Blooded Orphans through the Graze family, then pushed mix-and-match play in Build Divers Re:RISE via the Core Gundam / PLANETS armor system. More recently, he contributed to The Witch from Mercury (e.g., Beguir-Beu, Michaelis) and serves as a core creative on Bandai’s 30 Minutes lines—30MM, 30MS, and 30MF—where modular frames, option parts, and character/fantasy variations encourage customization. Beyond anime, Ebikawa frequently supervises toy/model development (e.g., ROBOT SPIRITS, METAL BUILD, Kotobukiya’s Full Metal Panic! kits), ensuring that the silhouette stays sharp and the parts work elegantly in hand.

Hallmarks: crisp planes and balanced proportions; joints that “invite” posing; modular ideas that reward kitbashing; and a consistent emphasis on silhouette clarity as the heart of the design.
