The Cosmic Era (CE) is the primary timeline in the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED universe, set in a world where humanity has expanded into space, creating large space colonies called “PLANTs” (Productive Location of Aerospace Technology). The timeline is marked by intense political and military conflict between Earth and the colonies, which have become increasingly autonomous and politically independent. This era features the ongoing struggle between the Earth Alliance, which represents Earth’s interests, and ZAFT (Zodiac Alliance of Freedom Treaty), a powerful faction based in the PLANTs.

The Cosmic Era is known for its focus on Newtypes—humans with enhanced mental and sensory abilities—and the political, moral, and social ramifications of genetic engineering. The timeline spans across multiple series, including Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny.
