HGUC #240 Nightingale

From Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack – Beltorchika’s Children, Char Aznable’s MSN-04II Nightingale joins the High Grade Universal Century line as HGUC #240. Conceived as Char’s enormous Newtype-use mobile suit in the alternate Beltorchika’s Children version of the story, the Nightingale pushes far beyond conventional mobile-suit proportions with broad funnel binders, massive rear armour and a low, heavily armoured silhouette. Even at 1/144 scale, the completed model measures approximately 400 mm across and 211 mm tall.

Bandai packed the huge frame with mechanical gimmicks throughout. The antenna block opens to reveal internal detail, the mono-eye can rotate, and the lower torso armour moves to expose the built-in mega-particle cannon. Both funnel binders articulate at their bases and can fold inward, while all ten funnels detach individually. Behind the front skirts are movable sub-arms capable of holding Beam Sabers, allowing the Nightingale to recreate its unusual multi-weapon close-combat configuration. The rear skirt also incorporates deployable landing/support gear and articulated propellant tanks.

The weapon loadout is equally substantial. A huge Large Mega Beam Rifle includes a deployable bipod, while the shield stores the Beam Tomahawk and missile detail on its reverse side. Four Beam Sabers are supplied, together with newly moulded beam effects for the Beam Tomahawk. Despite the machine’s extreme proportions, double-axis elbows and knees, pull-out shoulder joints and individually movable foot sections provide useful articulation for imposing ground and aerial displays.
